To make it easier to find my favorites without digging through the entire archives, I've listed my top 10 favorite free audiobooks below. Of course, it's impossible to compare such different books, and my favorites change depending on my mood, but you can't go wrong with these:
  1. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
  2. Howards End by E.M. Forester
  3. King Solomon's Mines by R. Rider Haggard
  4. The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope
  5. The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
  6. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
  7. Riders of the Purple Sage by Zane Grey
  8. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  9. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
  10. Whose Body? by Dorothy Sayers
And, for short stories:
  1. "The Lottery" - Shirley Jackson
  2. "A Rose for Emily" - William Faulkner
  3. "The Gospel According to Mark" - Jorge Louis Borges
  4. "The Gift of the Magi" - O. Henry
  5. "Nightfall" by Isaac Asimov
  6. "Bullet in the Brain" - Tobias Wolff
  7. "A Sound of Thunder" - Ray Bradbury
  8. "The Monkey's Paw" - W.W. Jacobs

    About

This blog publishes weekly reviews of free human-read audiobooks available on the web for download to your iPod or other portable music player. In my reviews, I try to avoid any spoilers beyond what you'd read on the cover of a paperback. Realizing that these books are being given away for free, I try to be not too harsh on the reader but still point out any aspects that may turn off some listeners.

I tend to prefer unabridged solo recordings, rather than reader-per-chapter or radio theater productions. I will not review any books or readers I dislike; there's just too much good stuff out there to be negative. Feel free to suggest any book, podcast or website in the comments.
